But seriously. What's really in a name? When I started my blog, I did a Google search on myself to make sure it wouldn't show up (don't want all of my innermost thoughts and rantings to end up in the wrong hands, right??). I didn't find anything on myself, thank goodness, but I found a lot of other people out there with my name. Some of them had my WHOLE name - first, middle, and last. That didn't really shock me all that much, considering I have a very common first, middle, and last name. But, what I did find interesting was that most of the same-namers have careers that are freakishly similar to mine. They were either lawyers, accountants, consultants, or like me, a combination of all three. In fact, I didn't see a single person (aside from a chemist) that DIDN'T do something related to what I do. Crazy! The craziest thing of all -- there is a woman in my home-city with my first, middle, and last name who practices tax law. Now, that's just spooky. It makes me wonder if our names really are representative of who we are as people. Or, maybe we become the people we are because of the names we're given. Think people have studied this phenomenon? Maybe one day, I'll look into it...
By the way - This post was inspired in part by the Facebook status game du jour. The goal is to look up your name on urbandictionary.com and post the definition as your FB status. From what I understand, the site apparently tells everyone they're awesome, so I can't get too excited about my results. But, I still found them excellent enough to share in multiple forums:
kristen: usually extremely beautiful. can surprise you at what she can do. very outgoing. can be emotional at times, but mostly just wants to party!
Example:
kristen: so my boyfriend broke up with me. i was sad at first but now i just want to party!
friend: his loss, you're extremely beautiful anyways!
kristen: watch me do this drop kick on my ex!
friend: wow; that's surprising of you, kristen!
That last part could NOT be more kick-ass. Literally. Love it!!!
(PS - This is a fun, fun little game, but be careful. I tried to look up my name at work, but the site was blocked. When I got home, I checked urbandictionary. Delighted with my name's meaning, I enthusiastically clicked on the "share on Facebook" link. What were almost posted to my profile were NOT the lovely words above, but rather some very, very vulgar things. Guess that's why the Company determined it to be off limits...)
I've Got a Name
Like the pine trees linin' the windin' road
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like the singin' bird and the croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
