We Are the World - Wednesday

HOW in the hizzell is it already Wednesday??  Wow, I'm behind this week.  Well, alas, it is in fact Hump Day, which means you must endure my goody-two-shoes side for the day.   Yep, that's right!  It's...

Today's homegrown hero:  He ain't just bringing SexyBack, ladies.  This Hip Hop Kid is also making quite a difference out there in our great big world.  Yep, you guessed it!  I'm talking about none other than...

Apparently, J.T. isn’t just hilarious, super-talented, and absolutely adorable -- he’s also quite the philanthropist!  I know this story is old news, but raising nearly $9.3 million for the Shriners Hospital in 2009 still deserves some WATW props.  Justin topped The Daily Beast’s 2009 list of charitable celebrities by hosting his annual charity golf tournament, giving a benefit concert with Taylor Swift and TLC, and appearing in a plethora of print and television ads.  Here’s what the DB had to say for all of J.T.’s do-goodery:

#1, Justin Timberlake

Charity:
 Shriners Hospital for Children
Annual Impact:
 $9,262,381

Talk about powerful branding. Timberlake’s name appeared alongside Shriners in over 1,000 newspapers or magazines over the last two years thanks to the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Kids Open, an annual Las Vegas golf event televised on the Golf Channel. He also headed up a benefit concert for the organization this fall, and got fellow pop stars Taylor Swift and TLC in on the act, though he hasn’t yet been spotted wearing the famous Shriners fez.

Breakdown:
TV ($617,981), Print ($8,625,000), Internet ($19,400), Personal donations (undisclosed)

For those of you who might not know, the Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of 22 hospitals across the country, dedicated to providing care for “thousands of kids with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, in a family-centered environment with NO FINANCIAL OBLIGATION to patients or families.”  That’s pretty incredible – all services, free of charge.  No wonder J.T.’s efforts have made such an impact!  Click below for more info on the Shriners.

Way to go, Justin! We here at Musical Musings (yes, I know that’s just me) SALUTE YOU!  Keep up the good work!  And the great music!  And the even better comedy!  And the most adorable smile…

Drop It Like It's Hot

Wow, clumsy doesn't even begin to describe me today.  It's one of those days where I'm just a step off, and therefore can't seem to hold on to anything I pick up, or manage not to screw up everything I touch.  Here are things I have dropped/spilled/ruined today:

1. My coffee.  All over my desk and the jeans I JUST pulled out of the wash, fresh and clean.
2. My iced tea.  All down my arms and all over the table where the jug was sitting.
3. The ice that went in the tea.  On the floor next to the table.
4. My straw for said iced tea.
5. Lettuce, all on the table surrounding the bowl of salad.
6. Croutons.
7. The crouton scoop.
8. A glass of water, all over everything I'm doing.  Now have soaked workpapers and printouts.
9. The door.  Couldn't get out of it because my hands were full.  Made a scene.  Had to get help from a kind bystander.

Wonder what #10 will be...

"Yo! Dance it off, Jo Jessica! Dance it off!!"

I Wanna Know

As an avid reader, an overly analytical worrier, and well-educated individual, I would consider myself naturally curious. Here are some things I want to know:

  1. Why Starbucks doesn't sell a Tanzanian Peaberry blend.
  2. Why organic milk stays fresh so much longer than regular milk.
  3. How to pass the CPA exam.
  4. If I will finish my application for the Bar exam by the March deadline.
  5. How people get incredible jobs (Met a guy at B&N tonight. Works in Investment Banking at Wachoiva/Wells. Probably my age. Great clothes, super nice BMW. From West Africa - so succeeded against all odds. Only has a bachelor's degree. His job kicks my job's ass.)
  6. How to make TMJ go away.
  7. Why people get TMJ in the first place.
  8. How amphetamines help with ADHD. Aren't the kids already hyper? Why would you think to give them speed?
  9. How to get people to read my blog so I can monetize it, become famous, and parlay my wit into a fabulous job in journalism.
  10. Where the socks go that get eaten by the dryer.
  11. Why patio furniture is so frickin' expensive.
  12. Where I can find 50s-style/inspired clothes for cheap. (That look like this.)
  13. How I can improve my chances of winning the lottery, so I can pay off my mortgage and student loans. (Actually playing the lottery might be a good start.)
  14. Why some people survive on around 3 hours of sleep a night, while others (like me) need more like 9.
  15. If the movie Valentine's Day will be as funny as it looks, or if it will make me want to slit my wrists.
  16. How I can get back into horseback riding, even though I'm broke. (Hunter/Jumper/Equitation. Some dressage. 20 years of experience. Inquire if your horse needs to be ridden.)
  17. Why Facebook finds it necessary to change its format every 5 minutes.
  18. How to play the guitar.
  19. If I'll ever meet "Mr. Right".
  20. Why my throat hurts. (I better not be getting sick!)

Enlighten me, oh wise readers, if you have any answers to my perplexing queries.

In the meantime, for your viewing pleasure:
