Working for the Weekend

So, it's 1:38, EST. I have yet to work this weekend. Time for some Adderall, a pot of coffee, and some inspirational tunes. I'll let Zune decide what I hear today, vis a vis my "Stuff I Like" auto-mix. First song up, Grey Street (Lilywhite Sessions Version, that is):

Grey Street - Dave Matthews Band

Look at how she listens
She says nothing of what she thinks
Just listens to abuses
And by the kitchen sink...

She thinks, "Hey!
Why do I live to this?
I'm latest on life
How did it end like this?"
Oh, then the wrongs in her heart fall
And she feels the weight in lies
And the colors mix together to grey
Grey Street

Begging now the difference
She prays to God most everynight
Although she swears He doesn't listen
There's hope in her that He just might

She said, "I Pray!"
"But they fall on deaf ears
I'm supposed to take it all on myself
To get out of this place."

But soon the wrongs in her heart fall
And then she rode the light in
Oh, the pain now seems it's over
And again she sees the pain
And then the colors mix together to grey
On Grey Street

It's all colored in again
Take what you can from your dreams
Make it real as anything
Takes the work out of the courage

She said, "Please!"
"There's someone sleeping outside my door
I live on the corner of Grey Street
And the end of the world."

And the wrong in her whole plan
I as hopeless as the day she came
And the man she calls her father
Ignores her and ignores her pain

Oh, when I walk out in the morning
In all this sunlight
And all the colors mix together to grey
On Grey Street
On Grey Street
It's Grey Street, you go

So, if you don't see your Heaven
Don't convince yourself you're done
Just 'cause the things around you seem heavy
Doesn't mean you can give up this ground

When you hold me down in the heart now
Move out and, oh, the wait is over
Oh, might notice of your worry
One another ... (?)
And the colors mix together to grey
On Grey Street
On Grey Street
To grey...
Yeah, yeah...

Hmm... So, the auto-mix didn't cut it. Just too depressing today! So, I made a new playlist called Happy Today. Got some fun stuff on there, like this tasty tidbit (which just so happens to perfectly describe me):

Happy Today mix is much more fun. Too bad it isn't helping with my lack of motivation to work though!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow...

Second post today, because it's a SNOW DAY!!

Well, sort of. It is a Saturday, so there's no work to get out of, and it didn't really snow all that much, but WHO CARES! I still call it a snow day - which means I feel absolutely no remorse about still being in my pajamas, and watching Nickelodeon Movies' "Snow Day" on DVD. Yes, it's geared towards 9-year-olds, but that doesn't mean I can't love it, too!

So, here's some random, Snow Day inspired thoughts and musings:

The Soap:

Trolling the Y&R Chat Boards to find out about why in the world CBS found it necessesary to re-cast the role of Tucker McCall (No more Boy Meets World Dad? SAD!), I stumbled across the following comment, which I felt sums up the soap quite nicely:

dailyobserver
Fri, Jan 15 - 6:09 pm
I like the current Tucker. I see no need for a new one.

A few suggestions...

Get that baby back to Sharon.
Let Jack be Summer's father.
Find Jill's mother.
Get Lilly some decent hats.

This is still the funniest video ever:

Miscellaneous:

I wonder how much it's costing taxpayers to have the Pres and the VP at the big game today? (I don't have a clue who's playing, and I don't care - but I do know that our fearless leader is taking a day off to partake...)

I wonder if the Ice Cream Man will endure the actual ice today to deliver his goods?

Maybe all this sleet will stay frozen, and the Snow Day will turn into a Snow Weekend, which will then run over into a Snow Monday. Wouldn't that be just the greatest??

I've signed up for NetFlix. I am getting "Post Grad" on Monday. What are the odds that I will live to regret this, as it will likely become one more thing to which I get addicted?

I love Mallomars. Even the store-brand kind.

Oh, Tim, how your Facebook statuses make me laugh: Tim: I've been told that I look just like Timothy McVeigh so you'll excuse me if I don't post a dumbledorfer or what ever it's called.

Don't Feel Like Cryin'

So, in the words of Whitesnake, "Here I Go Again..."

The only difference? This time, I'm embracing it! There are a lot of things to love about the Single Life. Here are a just a few:

  1. I don't have to watch ANY sports! I don't have to pretend to care about football, hockey, tennis, basketball, ANYTHING! And when the Olympics start in a couple of weeks - all I have to watch is Figure Skating, Xtreme Snowboarding, and Ice Dancing. :)
  2. I don't have to shave my legs if I don't feel like it.
  3. I don't have to set aside time to talk on the phone when I'd really rather be watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
  4. For that matter, I can watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians without feeling shame or enduring ridicule.
  5. More time to hang with my friends and family.
  6. My cat doesn't hate me, because I'm able to give him attention again.
  7. I'm free to flirt if I want to, but I certainly don't have to!
  8. More time to read, sleep in, study (yeah, right!!), and otherwise improve myself.
  9. No meeting his family or pretending to like his friends.
  10. No worrying about anybody else's needs, schedule, plans, or obligations. Guilt-free, and ALL ABOUT ME!!!

Politics of Dancing

If you know me at all, you have an idea of my thoughts on the Pres and our current government. 'Nuf said.

Here are a couple of Facebook statuses that made me laugh today:

Tracy: ugh. . obama reminds me of guys I have dated . . he looks good, sounds good- talks a great game . . only to find out that he is really full of hot air...

Alexander: Watching the State of the Union. Do you ever wonder what Joe Biden is thinking during these events? Like, do you think he is paying attention to the speech or he replays of old Three Stooges shows in his head? Do you think he cheers what Obama is saying or the fact that he is two feet taller than Pelosi and she looks like she is in need of a highchair?
(In response: Stacy: Oh, and by the way, being short isn't the only reason Pelosi needs a high chair.)

Tracy - I dated that guy, too! Andy - you raise some EXCELLENT questions. Stacy - HA!

Salute!

Stupid Girl

Grr... Signed up for a free trial and then forgot about it and got charged for a subscription. Darn it! I'm such a sucker!

In other news:

For some reason, the Ice Cream Man visited my neighborhood today. Isn't that normally an activity reserved for months other than January? I wonder if they are connected to the drug dealers that operated under the guise of Ice Cream men and out of a warehouse across the street from my high school. Hmm... I may have to investigate further...

In addition: BEST FACEBOOK STATUS of the week:

Tim: Please stop posting kisses, hugs, angels, wishes, blessings, smiles or any other manner of hippy bullcrap onto my profile. Also, I'm not going to help you find a lost cow or some gangster's lunchbox. Sorry. I'm just not. So don't do it.

Here, here, Tim! We salute you!

Sick City

Working from home today with the start of a cold (or crying hangover - could be either). About to work on a project for the boss-man, so I'm gearing up with some great tunes in the form of a Panic! at the Disco auto-mix. Here's a snippet. Enjoy!

Things have changed for me, and that's okay

I feel the same, I'm on my way, and I say

Things have changed for me, and that's okay

Plain White Ts - Big Bad World

it's a big bad world
were doing what we can
sometimes we fall on our face
before we even learn to stand
but we get back up
shake off all the dust
and take it step by step

i can fill the whole floor to the cieling
with all the dead wrong choices ive made
and even though we try to learn
from each others mistakes

we'll do it again (doing it again)
we'll do it again my friend (doing it again)
we'll do it again and again
till we eventually can change
the way its always been

it's a big bad dream
following your heart
sometimes the one you
need's the one that tears you apart
so you say goodbye
kiss her one more time
and cry the whole way home

i can fill up the driest river
with all the tears falling off of my face
and even though we try to learn
from each others mistakes

we'll do it again (doing it again)
we'll do it again my friend (doing it again)

we'll do it again and again
till we eventually can change
the way its always been(x2)

just running 'round in circles
tripping over every hurdle
were just trying to do the best that we can

it's a big bad life
all that we can do
is try to make it right
tomorrow something new
so if a big rain cloud
follows you around
dont let it get you down

All American Rejects - The Wind Blows
THE WIND BLOWS lyrics All-american Rejects

I've got to breathe

You can't take that from me

Cause it's all that you left that's mine

You had to leave

And that's all I can see

But you told me your love was blind

There are times

You're so impossible that I should sign a waiver

And you will find

Someone worth walking on when you ask me to go

(Chorus)

I'll leave when the wind blows

Take a breath and there it goes

I'll be outside of your window

I'll pass by but I'll go slow

I'll leave when the wind blows

There was a day

You threw our love away

Then you passed it to someone new

You wanna stay

But since you wanna play

We can finally say we're through

There are times you're so impossible and you ask me to go

(Chorus)

I'll leave when the wind blows

Take a breath and there it goes

I'll be outside of your window

I'll pass by but I'll go slow

I'll leave when the wind blows

You can scream there's just echoes

Pass outside of your window

You'll be sad that you let me go

I'll leave but just know

As I lay in solitude

Oh What's a boy supposed to do

I Shake the very thought of you

Me together, I remember

Late nights when I stayed up late

All I do is wait and wait

You're never coming home to me

That's the hardest thing to see

I got to breathe

You can't take that from me

We can finally say we're through

(Chorus)

I'll leave when the wind blows

Take a breath and there it goes

I'll be outside of your window

I'll pass by but I'll go slow

I'll leave when the wind blows

You can scream there's just echoes

Pass outside of your window

You'll be sad that you let me go

On every face you'll ever know

And everywhere you ever go

You'll feel when the wind blows

All the Right Friends

FRIENDS. They are one of the greatest gifts we can receive. Mine have been so amazing throughout this whole ordeal, that I can't believe I could possibly be so blessed. Having all of the people I love listen to me bitch and whine for what feels like an eternity, help me come to some seriously important realizations, and then stand behind me through a very tough decision has shown me that, although I might not have a man in my life, my cup runneth over.

I love you all!!

(Oh, and REALLY crappy TV doesn't hurt either. Because, like I always say, no matter how bad things get - they're never as bad as they are in Genoa City!!)

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

Starting the blog off on a bit of a sad note, because I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday. So, a lot of songs are hitting home today. Here's a sampling of what's pulled at the heartstrings so far... (Notice the mood-swings. Yep, breaking up makes me a little bit insane...)

The Fray - All at Once

Looking for the right one
you line up the world to find
Where no questions cross your mind
But she won't keep on waiting for you without a doubt
Much longer for you to sort it out

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same
Maybe you want her maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare to someone not there

Maybe you want it maybe you need it,
Maybe it's all you're running from,
Perfection will not come

And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

We'd never know what's wrong without the pain
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same

Prince - Let's Go Crazy

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today2 get through this thing called life
Electric word lifeIt means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here 2 tell u
There's something else
The afterworld
A world of never ending happiness
U can always see the sun, day or night
So when u call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
U know the one - Dr Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cuz in this life
Things are much harder than in the afterworld
In this life
You're on your own
And if de-elevator tries 2 bring u down
Go crazy - punch a higher floor

Jimmy Fallon - Idiot Boyfriend

I know what you want, and I know what you need
But I'm gonna screw it up, yeah
Cause I'm an idiot, and I'm your boyfriend, yes I am

I'm gonna take you out, and leave my wallet home
Then I use your cell phone, baby
Long distance, and I'm your boyfriend
Baby I know I'm a man who's made mistakes
I still got some learning to do
I made out with your best friend the other day,
and Now we're best friends too
Yeah Yeah
And I know what you want, and I know what you need
But I'm gonna screw it up, yeah
Cause I'm an idiot, and I'm your boyfriend,
yes I am
And I'm gonna get you a gift, Hey!
But it’s something I like too
Hope you like this Norelco Beard trimmer with my name on it,
And I'm your boyfriend...
Then we'll have the living room all to ourselves, you see
We'll put on some great DVD's I picked up
How bout like, something like the Matrix
Hey baby you like fine cooking? Cause you know what?
I got a swanson's dinner in the freezer with your name on it
Check it out
Yeah!I got a permanent wave, yeah!
I got an ogilvie home perm, baby

Nick Jonas (Shut it - it's a great song!) - Who I Am

Nothing makes sense, nothing makes sense anymore
Nothing is right, nothing is right when you're gone
I'm losing my breath, I'm losing my right to be wrong
I'm frightened to death, I'm frightened that I won't be strong
I want someone to love me
For who I am
I want someone to need me
Is that so bad?
I wanna break all the madness
But it's all I have
I want someone to love me
For who I am
I'm shaking it off, I'm shaking off all of the pain.
Breaking my heart, breaking my heart once again

Dangerous and Sweet

Howdy!  If you're reading this, you for some reason wanted to know more about me!  I'm touched, truly, and therefore shall oblige.

In a Nutshell...

I'm Kristen.  Lazy, 31, gainfully employed, absolutely adorable, perpetually single (or, at least for the moment...).  I’m easily distracted, and rarely fooled.  At times, I'm witty.  Other times, melancholy.  Sometimes, dull.  Always special (I’ll let you decide what kind…).

I'm a girly tomboy.  A republican hippie.  A loudmouth introvert.  A realistic dreamer.  An optimistic cynic.  Basically, I'm contradiction in every way.

Clearly, I love music.  I have a thing for exposing the inner-workings of my warped and crowded mind through cryptic song lyrics.  I also steal from YouTube.  A lot.  You may have noticed that each of my blog posts is titled after a song. (Yep, every single one.)

I am remarkably sensitive, and often overly critical.  I laugh more than I cry, but I cry harder than I laugh.  I overuse parentheses and ellipses, but I am otherwise a grammatical genius.  I am typing this in a font that is aptly named “Kristen”.  I am overeducated and underpaid.  I suffer from extreme ADD, coupled with an overwhelming lack of motivation.  I like to use adjectives whenever possible.

I already know that I'm flawed, but I'm Slowly learning that I'm perfect, too. Just the way I am.

Confused?  Don't worry.  It's all part of the magical, mythical, marvelous experience that is me.

Behold, Respect, and Enjoy.

The Lyrics

I know that you are just like me, oversensitive.
An unordinary breed.
Taking everything for much more than it means.
Well it's dangerous, and it's sweet.
Cut us and we bleed
.
-Lenka, Dangerous and Sweet

I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I've laid down with love and I woke up with lies
What's it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not what's in the mirror but what's left inside
-Stevie Nicks, Sometimes It's a Bitch

I'm completely unconnected
Constantly rejected
Like everything I've ever loved is coming down
I'm drowning in emotion
In the middle of the ocean
Never knowing when it's over and I'm going down

That's how I feel
-Alexz Johnson, How I Feel

Someday maybe sombody will love me like I need
Someday I won't have to prove 'cause somebody will see
all my worth
But until then I'll do just fine on my own
-The Wreckers, Cigarettes

At this point in my life
Ive done so many things wrong I don't know if I can do right
If you put your trust in me I hope I wont let you down
If you give me a chance I'll try
You see it's been a hard road the road Im traveling on
And if I take your hand I might lead you down the path to ruin
Ive had a hard life Im just saying it so you'll understand
That right now, right now, Im doing the best I can
- Tracy Chapman, At This Point In My Life

If you want me
You can find me
Left of center,
Off of the strip.
In the outskirts,
And in the fringes,
In the corner,
Out of the grip.
-Susannah Vega, Left of Center

Well I was raised up beneath the shade of a Georgia pine
And that`s home you know
With sweet tea, pecan pie and homemade wine
Where the peaches grow
And my house it`s not much to talk about
But it`s filled with love that`s grown in southern ground
And a little bit of chicken fried

-Chicken Fried, Zac Brown Band
Don't tell me not to live,
Just sit and putter,
Life's candy and the sun's
A ball of butter.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade!
Don't tell me not to fly--
I've simply got to.
If someone takes a spill,
It's me and not you!
Who told you you're allowed
To rain on my parade?!
I'll march my band out,
I'll beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir.
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it!
But whether I’m the rose
Of sheer perfection,
Or freckle on the nose
Of life's complexion,
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye,
I gotta fly once,
I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, life is juicy,
Juicy, and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love,
’cause I’m a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer!
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade!

I'm gonna live and live now,
Get what I want--I know how,
One roll for the whole shebang,
One throw, that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target--and wham--
One shot, one gun shot, and bam--
Hey, Mister Arnstein, here I am!
I'll march my band out,
I will beat my drum,
And if I’m fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it.
Get ready for me, love,
'cause I’m a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!
- Babs, Don’t Rain on My Parade
